and I’m an addict.
It’s been five days since I started using DiRT Rally, and I just can’t stop playing!
This game is incredibly well done, and addictive. I was having a lot of trouble at first, but yesterday some friends and I adjusted the settings on the wheel, and it made it way better.
Anyone else play?

I haven’t because the reviews on Amazon were mediocre. I play Forza 6 and love it and Need 4 Speed Street which is okay. I prefer realisim to arcade action. Really love rally driving but not if you simply bounce off of everything and just mash the gas the whole time. I like to weight shift the car for a turn. DiRT for me?

I’d say this game is more realistic than FM6. It’s not like the old dirt games, where you bounced off everything. Damage is quite real in this game, it significantly affects the vehicles performance, and the physics are quite good, at least as good as FM6.
It’s an intense game. I was just driving a 105hp 4spd Lancia Fulvia, but flat out in some of the faster sections of stages required a ton of focus. Especially if you like with the HUD off like I do, you can only rely on the pace notes from the co-driver.
If you’ve ever played Richard Burns Rally, this is better.

Follow up question (and thank you for the insightful review). Legend Edition or base pack? I’m buying it now. Which did you get?

Oh wait I’m looking at a game that releases in April. Seems I should wait?

Yeah, I’ve got it for PC. Isn’t out on consoles yet. Do you have a wheel, pedal, and shifter setup? If not, the game will be far less enjoyable.
As for which version, I don’t know. I believe the one on PC just come with everything.

I do not have the setup, no, but I can fix that problem. (Just occured to me I have a yoke for flight sims... hrmm.) So okay that makes total sense about the PC vs console. I’ve got PS4 and Xbox and both platforms are released Apr 5th. I am stoked to hear that you’re digging the game and it sounds exactly like what I would enjoy. Thanks for that!
Now I’m gonna go do some laps in a M3 on Project Cars. Zoom zoom!

Amazon Reviews don’t look mediocre to me. 10 5-star reviews and a single 1-star from someone who couldn’t get the game to work on his computer.
Also, all the actual rally drivers I’ve talked to who have played it say it’s just about the closest thing there is to a real rally car (some still say Richard Burns is slightly better). I played it on the FY Racing rig and it handed me my ass. Rally driver Will Orders played it on the FY Racing rig and it looked like this:

I apologize. I was looking at the WRC5 game reviews and looking at DiRT in another tab. DiRT doesn’t have any reviews as it’s not out yet.

I wanted to like it, but without a wheel is impossible, and there were a couple instances where glitches just completely fucked a run. It just became too aggravating. I hope it’s improved, I think it’s still technically alpha.

Can you tell more about he adjustment you made to the wheel?

Not out for Playstation/XBox yet, but it’s been out for PC for about a year. Like I said, I’ve played it.

That was mostly in beta. It’s only officially been “released” on PC for like three months

Get a wheel before you get this game. I can’t imagine it’d be that great without one.

I’ve had no issues with it yet, apart from needing to adjust the wheel. I doubt I’d like it without one.

I have put hundreds of hours into this game. I got it as soon as it started on steam greenlight last year

I hadn’t read much into it, and had sort of judged it based on the name and the older games, which were fun but not the most realisitc. The other day my buddy and I were talking racing games, and he said DiRT is better than RBR. That convinced me that I need to try it, and I am very glad I did!

All I play is driving games, really. Kinda stupid that I haven’t bought one already.

Okay, I’ve got a G920, so the stuff should be pretty much the same.
I reduced the wheel’s range (it was at like 800° or something crazy) down to 270°. I tried 90°, which is what the wheel in the game is set at, and 180°, both were way too twitchy/sensitive. 270° works pretty nicely, and I dropped the sensitivity down a touch too.

Well the unfortunate thing is that you have both platforms, so you are either going to have to pick which console you want a wheel for or buy two setups.
I’ve got the Logitech G920, works for Xbone and PC, and I like it quite a bit. Only complaint is that the brake pedal is ridiculously stiff. I calibrated it in the game, so that about 30% pressure = 100% braking force.

I ordered this:
http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01…
The reviews are uniformly good and it’s not $400. Certainly won’t be a proper setup, but it’ll be a fun change from the controller. I’ve got Forza dialed in with the controller on Xblock but Project Cars suffers from lack of wheel and I’m excited for some rally action on the Ps4. Project Cars is fairly painful with a controller BTW, if you’ve not tried. Modulating throttle or holding a gentle turn angle on a sweeping turn (Daytona springs to mind) is nearly impossible. The slightest twich unbalances the car and then you have to slow down and reel it back in or go all out and try to rescue a spin by turning it into a drift, which is incredibly life like — you wreck every time.

Do I do this on the Logitech app or in game? Thanks for your help I got a wheel a while back and have not been able to tweak it correctly.

Hot damn! Wheel and pedals FTW! It is going to take some dialing in, as the 1080 degree range had me flopping arround like a gorilla trying to do a tight turn, for example, but after about an hour I was taking 5-6 seconds off of my previous best lap times, no problem. It’s night and day. Drive Club, previously discarded as relatively unplayable, is the best game I’ve got now. Really looking forward to rallying with this setup. Thanks for the advice!

Glad to hear it! Out of the box mine was set at like 800 degree range, I changed it to 270 for DiRT and it’s pretty damn good.

I’m going to try it at 270. I didn’t go that low as it seemed like a hell of a cut from 1080 but the 720 I’ve got it at still isn’t quite right.
I could use these same numbers to describe what my spine feels like after a few hours hunched over on my couch with a wheel awkwardly half bolted to my coffee table. I not understand that the fancy gaming chair might be worth buying if I can find a good place to hide it before having any women over.

Lol well take it incrementally to see. I’m guessing each game may require slightly different settings.
Yeah, I’m surprisingly sore after a couple hours of playing DiRT or iRacing. I want to finish my sim rig though, so I can sit in a nicely bolstered, yet comfortable, FR-S driver’s seat! Luckily I already have an amazing girlfriend, who knows just how much of a dork I am, so no need to hide it. lol
